Minutes to Decimal Hours Table

All sixty minutes converted to decimal hours — the reference card for filling in a timesheet.

This minutes to decimal hours table is the paper version of the converter: every minute value with the decimal payroll wants. Pin it next to the timesheet and the seven-forty-five-is-not-seven-forty-five error disappears.

Quarter hours, the values used most

0 min = 0.00 · 6 min = 0.10 · 10 min = 0.17 · 12 min = 0.20 · 15 min = 0.25 · 20 min = 0.33 · 24 min = 0.40 · 30 min = 0.50 · 36 min = 0.60 · 40 min = 0.67 · 45 min = 0.75 · 48 min = 0.80 · 50 min = 0.83 · 54 min = 0.90 · 60 min = 1.00.

Everything else

Any minute not listed is simply that number divided by sixty, rounded to two decimal places. 37 minutes is 37 ÷ 60 = 0.62. The decimal converter does it instantly, and the time card calculator applies it to a whole week at once.

Frequently asked questions

Should I round the decimal?
Two decimal places is the payroll convention and is accurate to well under a minute. Follow whatever your employer's system expects.
Is rounding minutes the same as rounding punches?
No. Converting minutes to decimals is arithmetic; rounding punch times is a policy, and it has rules of its own.
